How to Sync Facebook with Twitter

Every since my wife and I set this up for our facebook pages a lot has happened. We have saved time by not having to update in 2 places. People have sent teary eyed emails when my wife will post hard things we are trusting God for. Guys I work with will report increased discipline due to something posted that challenged them. Letting people know what we are doing, thinking, praying, hoping or whatever has been very rewarding and we love seeing what are friends family and acquaintances are into as well. So here is a tutorial to help you along the way!

Occasionally Facebook will have technical issues and the twitter app won’t install properly. Just delete it and try again later.

I would really like to see some discussion for the following question. I have an answer but I want to hear some objections and some other peoples input first.

Why do I need Twitter if I am Updating my Facebook Status Already?

  • In short, I don’t think anyone needs Twitter. It’s simply another portal to connect with people. I personally have found it to be a great tool to connect with NEW people. People that I would never have been friends with on Facebook. I am developing authentic relationships on Twitter that I sometimes carry over to REAL LIFE meetings! THEN i friend them on Facebook!

  • I agree with Ryan. Twitter is another tool for connecting with people. I’ve only been using Twitter for a few weeks and I’ve already connected with people I never would have met elsewhere. Besides, if you see value in updating your Facebook status, then you can only multiply that by having the same messages on Twitter as well, and you still only have to post once and it can go both places. I could understand someone who doesn’t update Facebook status not wanting to Twitter, but if you’re already updating doing the Facebook status thing, I don’t see any reason not to Twitter.

  • I agree with the above thoughts about the ability to connect with people that you wouldn’t have met otherwise. I follow some church leaders tweets (Ed Stetzer, Tim Steves, Thom Rainer, Max Lucado) and I find some of the stuff they post to be both encouraging and challenging. I personally prefer twitter now to IM, since it’s more flexible in the time of the conversation and you don’t have to feel guilty if you can’t reply to someone at the moment.

I used to use the twitter update feature of facebook, but I’ve started updating Twitter, Facebook, and a lot of other sites (mainly for backup purposes) using ping.fm. In addition to status updates you can also email pictures to the service and it will post them to flickr, facebook, and their own media hosting service. It’s really nice!

  • You the man AMarshall. I did this for my tweets to facebook and to my blogs a while back. Now I have to do it again for two Wordpress sites I’m building and I didn’t feel like finding the tagged site in my delicious. Cool beans!

  • Aaron, what are you using to do the screencasts? Ithemes recommends Techsmiths Camstudio and Jing. Can you use a MAC without any web application? Email me if you get a chance.

  • [...] for those of you who are fans of the Facebooks status update (like my wife), you can watch a short video explaining how to connect your Twitter updates with your Facebook updates. No Comments [...]

  • Bryce, I use iShowU
